The Business Applications Department creates, develops and maintains a wide range of systems to support deal capture, valuations, settlements, invoicing, and risk reporting. We also update the different systems for trading governance and back-ups. These systems function throughout Maersk Oil and Gas, Maersk Tankers, and Maersk Oil Trading. On average, the systems capture 25,000 deals per year at an annual turnover of USD 11+ billion.
The team is very dynamic and diverse, with employees from Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Denmark. The different talents offer the team a tremendous advantage in creating innovative systems to support and structure our daily business operations.
One of the most transformative projects is our Bunkering Optimization Planning System (BOPS). As the title suggests, this system aims to optimize the bunkering schedule and location through creating the best cost-efficient solution for each transaction. The result is based not only on a monetary perspective, but also on an environmental standpoint. The system decreases the fuel amount consumed by the fleet and ultimately minimizes carbon and sulphur footprints.
The BOPS system used by our fuel traders is entirely an original creation of our team. In order to mold the systems exactly to the traders’ needs, we tailored a trading platform that proved to be a very effective tool for creating an overview for fuel traders and the management team.
